Prof. Dr. Christopher Powers will be the lecturer for this weekend course of applied biomechanics in physical therapy.
Dr. Christopher Powers is professor at the University of Southern California (USC) and head of the division Biokinesiology & Physiotherapy at USC. Furthermore Dr. Powers is a practitioner and scientist for clinically applied biomechanics and gait analysis. Dr. Powers is a worldwide leading person for clinical biomechanics and gait analysis. He founded the Movement Performance Institute (MPI) in LA, a leading facility for functional movement diagnosis, sports movement evaluation and advanced physical therapy. Latest research in motion analysis is applied to the daily training methods for clinical biomechanics, gait analysis and physical therapy. Dr. Powers offers courses and classes for clinical biomechanics, gait and running analysis all over the US.The course in Munich will be his only class in Europe in 2012. Gait and Running Analysis Workshop at the Movement Performance Institute (Los Angeles, CA)

Over the last 5 months Prof. Dr. Christopher Powers has been teaching the master for biomechanics at the Movement Performance Institute in Los Angeles. This master class is an educational program for physical therapists, doctors, coaches, trainers and gait specialists. The program is mainly about:
“Perform a sophisticated gait, running and cycling evaluation.
Understand and integrate into practice current research related to clinical biomechanics
Develop intervention programs that address the root causes of movement related impairments.”
Many of the course participants are active runners themselves and were analyzed throughout the weekend courses. Furthermore additional patients came in to be evaluated, analyzed and offered a full treatment plan.
For this purpose Simi Aktisys was used to capture high speed videos of each runner as well as measuring the biomechanics of the runner to identify problems.
The use of the Simi Aktisys was a great success in the course and proved to be useful in every clinical gait and running analysis. It provides fast and accurate results as well as high speed video captures for detailed analysis tasks. The system is a new invention of Simi and is the only one of its kind.
The use of the system in combination with the interpretation of the physiotherapist furthermore leads for the patient to a much better understanding of the problems. By getting the patient on board faster endurable results can be achieved.
Also in use are a system for live force vector overlay and EMG feedback.
The Movement Performance Institute is an evaluation and training facility operated by Dr. Christopher Powers. The long term goal of the MPI is to promote the use of instrumented movement analysis as being a fundamental component of the physical therapy examination. To this end, it is the intent to develop a network of clinics across the world that share this common philosophy and perform similar types of biomechanical assessments and consultative services.
If you are interested in getting more knowledge about gait, running and daily biomechanics and/or the products for it, please contact us for further information.
New option of data synchronisation: Experiences of the laboratory at St. Etienne

At the motion laboratory at University of St. Etienne, a new Simi Motion 2D has been installed. Most important for this lab was the possibility of combining already existing measuring instruments with Simi without much material or budget to construct hardware based synchronization for all of them. The new function in Simi Motion, to shift or to synchronise data of any kind by just pressing a button, enables the lab at St. Etienne to combine Simi with all existing measuring instruments very flexible and easy. See the demo video below.
Review: Course for Gait Analysis 15.-18.04.2011

The Basic and Advanced Course for clinical Gait Analysis with Mrs. Kirsten Götz-Neumann in the Gait and Motionlab in Unterschleißheim was seen by the participants as a great success. Throughout the course, the participants were able to appropriate a lot of practical knowledge about Gait Analyses and applied Biomechanics in everyday practice. This knowledge was applied instantly to several demo patients. Also the use of practice-oriented technical tools in the motionlab were valued positively. Other courses from this Block:
NEW! Simi Aktisys

Simi Aktisys is the new generation of easy motion analysis. Simi Aktisys recognizes and tracks colored LED markers automatically in the live stream. Get high-class data of motion analysis with just a few clicks in a couple of minutes. Since the data are displayed on the live stream, Aktisys is also qualified for a Biofeedback system. With this new technology of motion analysis, Simi Aktisys can capture motion data faster, simpler, more reliable and more accurate than before. If you wish to receive more product information, please contact us. For further information please click here
NEW! Fully automatic gait cycle detection for Simi Motion and Aktisys

Within the actual Version of Simi Motion and Aktisys a new algorithm for fully automatic gait cycle detection has been implemented. Using heel and forefoot markers the software can recognize stance phase, swing phase and step length completely automatic. If you are interested in information about this new feature and how you could get it consult our sales team
Automatic Marker Tracking in Simi Motion Video Systems

Simi Motion extension for real time tracking on recorded videos, the newest Simi Motion Module, is now available for Simi’s 2D/3D video systems for movement analyses. The module automatically searches and follows reflective markers on recorded videos. The temporary 2D/3D data are immediately shown after the automatic tracking. Labeling to the specification can be done directly on the video. Movement analysis in medicine, sport, research, or industry can now be performed quicker and easier, without losing the benefit of a video system.
Existing customers can integrate the new module through a simple system upgrade. Please contact one of our sales representatives to discuss your system configuration.

Össur opts for Simi Motion

"Össur uses the Simi Motion system for the evaluation and development of prostheses. In biomechatronics, the Simi System, is able to aid in the design and fit of prostheses through highly precise motion measurments. With a very simple Setup, analysis can be done quite quickly and easily, to get the dynamic Motion Data." (Peter Slijkhuis, Manager physiotherapy Ossur academy)
Simi industrial solutions

Trikon: "For Trikon Solutions AG, video recordings are an important means of analysis and documentation in the areas of laboratory services and product development. There is a particularly high demand for our mobile high-speed camera system. This enables ultrafast processes such as drop tests, crash tests, switching processes and similar rapid processes to be captured. By this means we and our customers gain enhanced and often unexpected insights into processes of a very short duration which would otherwise not be available. A particularly distinctive synergy results from the use of such ultra-fast video recordings and the possibilities opened up by a software-based motion analysis. For this we rely upon Simi Motion 2D. Using this program we analyze kinematic processes in machines and optimize complex mechanisms based on the results generated by Simi Motion such as path, velocity and acceleration behaviour of parts which can be captured optically. We prefer to use the automatic tracking feature provided by the program for analysis of the raw data. The convenient graphical representation of the results facilitates our interpretation of the large amounts of data which are produced. Simi Motion 2D has become absolutely indispensable in our laboratory services spectrum and as a product development tool."
